Yes. It just has to be a really good game. And there are precious few worth paying monthly for.

But if it’s novel and fun, people will pay. The game companies leaders just want to phone it in and rake in megabucks though. I think even casual gamers have grown wise to that, especially with the current economic wasteland harming so many people.

No. We all poor now.

Well, it's certainly possible. Will it be successful though? Well, I guess that depends if the game is any good.

I don't know. Ask Sony.

Market is saturated.

Who has money to spend on a subscription?

Also even when I had money, I don't want to keep buying the game every month. It's stressful, and sometimes I like playing other things.

Looking at the amount of money gacha and other "free"-to-play titles are pulling these days, it seems like quite a few people have lots of money to burn on gaming.

That's likely what is preventing any new subscription based mmo. Why bother with a reliable and fair price when lootbox bullshit makes you 10x the money.

You're probably more correct than not. I'd be curious to see like those people's budgets. How many are carrying credit card debt or neglecting other parts of their life to spend on digital gambling?
