YSK about opnxng.com, a site hosting public services focused on privacy

submitted by edited

about.opnxng.com/

Opnxng hosts a number of public services focused on privacy by using opensource front ends for popular websites, including:
- Medium
- Threads
- Github
- IMDB
- Stackoverflow
- Tumblr
- Quora
- Fandom

It also hosts tools like:
- Stirling PDF
- IT Tools
- Etherpad
- Privatebin
- Send

and a few lemmy frontends like mlmym, Photon, and Voyager.

Edit: added a detail that they are not hosting the websites I listed, but rather open source and privacy respecting front ends for these websites.

With no published owner information, YS consider it a honeypot.

The age old problem always comes back... I don't know the solution but anything that looks like it is a fed/honeypot

The simple answer is self-host (or dont host it online at all) if you really care about keeping your data safe. Otherwise, use a provider with a published name and address, and if they leak your data, use the legal system to resolve it.

Found the owner: https://github.com/searxng/searx-instances/issues/292

Privacy policy looks good: https://about.opnxng.com/privacy/

That being said, could still 100% be a honeypot. Trust nothing.

Privacy policies are only as good as your ability to legally enforce them. And without a name or address, you'll struggle to do that against a github account. Even a lawyers name would be a start.

Cloudflare may know their identity, but thats still a gamble.

oh yes. please feed my anxiety.

Just don't use it for sensitive data.

Too late.

You live a dangerous lifestyle, Dänemark-bro.

Opnxng doesn't host Searxng? Seems like a missed opportunity. Edit: never mind, they do.

Note: for those who don't know, xng is pronounced ing in some languages.

First time of heard of SoundCloak. Pretty cool.
