The U.S. attack on Venezuela and abduction of its president Nicolás Maduro was proof that after months of threats, the Trump administration’s talk of hemispheric hegemony isn’t just bluster. The administration is clearly reorienting the U.S. military toward power projection in the Western Hemisphere, as it plots a reorganization that would make it easier to launch strikes across the Americas.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis school system will offer families the option of remote learning for a month, officials said Friday, responding to concerns that children might feel unsafe venturing out in a city where tensions are high over federal immigration enforcement.

“We just saw them murder an American citizen in cold blood, in the street,” said US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “This is an agency that must be reined in.”

A federal judge on Thursday disqualified the Trump loyalist top prosecutor in upstate New York and tossed subpoenas his office has issued to state Attorney General Letitia James.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis on Jan. 7 is Jonathan Ross, the same officer who was dragged and injured by a fleeing driver in a separate incident last year, according to a person with knowledge of the case and verified by court documents.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City parents may soon have access to free child care for their 2-year-olds, under a plan set to be unveiled Thursday by Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

The United States of America is a rogue nation, run by a violent criminal who operates outside the rule of law. The bombing of Venezuela and kidnapping of its president, Nicolás Maduro, so that he can stand for a show trial in New York, is a flagrant violation of international law. It is proof positive that the United States, under Trump, is the biggest “bad guy” on the international stage and should be treated accordingly. It’s a new low point in the era of lows we call the Trump administration. And it’s a return to the imperialist posturing and interventionism that have defined this country’s garbage treatment of Latin America for two centuries.

The Senate has advanced a resolution that would limit Trump’s ability to conduct further attacks against Venezuela, sounding a note of disapproval for the president’s expanding ambitions in the Western Hemisphere.

Two people were killed and six were injured in a shooting outside a Salt Lake City church where a funeral reception was held Wednesday night, according to Salt Lake City police.

If passed, the bill would require lessons to take place at some point in children’s schooling after age 8.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has a new budget under the current administration, and they are going on a surveillance tech shopping spree. Standing at $28.7 billion dollars for the year 2025 (nearly triple their 2024 budget) and at least another $56.25 billion over the next three years, ICE’s budget would be the envy of many national militaries around the world. Indeed, this budget would put ICE as the 14th most well-funded military in the world, right between Ukraine and Israel.

“If you cannot oppose this regime change war for oil, you don’t have the moral clarity or guts to lead our party or nation,” said one progressive congressman.
