Hi guys! I’ve been self hosting for a while and been using am 2 tb HDD I bought on aliexpress two years ago to host movies and series.. I bought a second drive to separate them and organize my media.

I’m finally making a real effort to add beets to my life. I’ve been hesitant because I like what I like and I (mostly) know what I’m doing, you know? I also have a lot of local independent albums that are just not likely to get tagged anyway.

Like the question implies, I really want too get off of instagram. Its not the same space anymore, especially with the consistent push from Meta to use AI. Ive even made my profile private so those features don’t automatically turn on. Its gotten crazy there.

Has anyone managed to get multiple CalDAV calendars (e.g. personal and work) to send out event invite emails using corresponding email aliases from the same email account?

Hi, I want to self host a git service to display my work (electronics) for some recruiters. Which platform is the best? I’ve heard about Gitlab, Gitea and Forgejo. For me the fact that the platform doesn’t run some background analytics and does not sell my data is very important.

I have been running crowdsec on my OpenWRT firewall for a bit now, I am just curious as to what others think about it?

So, I’ve finally gotten a comfortable setup for my beautiful podman quadlets, its a simple debian system, heavily systemd reliant, and I’m curious about how yall admin such a thing, I’ve got a couple of scripts to create users, skel the home directories, and templates for services.

Bonjourno! I got a couple of domain names to register and I wanted to switch providers from google. I checked out a couple of the bigger ones like Cloudflare and Infomaniak but they’re all asking me to upload a government photo id for security or whatever… I figured I’d ask around here to see what yall are using. I dont need anything crazy, mostly just the registration part. Bonus points for hosting dns with an api to manage records & what not but that part isnt necessary.

I have noticed it’s not uncommon for there to be quite a few posts around self hosting security, especially with any services that would be public facing. I was thinking security is (or should be) a core component of self hosting and was wondering if it would be worth a resource wiki would be beneficial on the sidebar under resources? At least for some 101 security guides/resources

The summer and its rabid heat is here and i still have a lot of lawn that hasnt been replaced by gardens yet (work in progress) and grows super fast

Converted my daily driver to my vm/docker host. I assumed all my images would be included in timeshift’s snapshots, but… nope!

I have a VPS that I secure as much as possible since the IP is public, but does a wireguard-access-only homelab warrant the same efforts? Those with homelabs like this, what do you do?

Hey, folks! I had begun configuring VLANs recently, and I’ve got two managed switches between my firewall and my mini PC. I set up a 10 VLAN on the third octet with a /24 mask, and the idea is that anything on 10 should be able to reach the internet but not VLAN 1, while VLAN 1 should be able to access the internet and VLAN 10 services. I’m not so crazy as to try to start with that configuration though. No ports or anything are exposed yet, so my first test was just going to be full access between networks. I maybe counted my initial configuration as a success too soon, because with the mini PC on the 10 network, I can reach the gateway at 192.168.10.1 but nothing else. I can even access the OPNsense config page at the 10 gateway address. If I ping 192.168.1.1, I get “Network is unreachable”. If I ping www.google.com, I get “Temporary failure in name resolution”, and I also can’t pull up sites like YouTube. And again, this is all with a VLAN rule that I believed to be configured to allow all traffic, as it mimics what’s set up for my default LAN interface. Pinging the mini PC from the 1 VLAN also fails; it just sort of times out with 100% packet loss, so perhaps the default rule is less permissive than I thought, but it does say it allows all.

I have docker installed, but only have a vague idea of how it works.

The other day I was looking for lyrics to a song. I went to a lyrics website and was hit with a wall of ads, despite my pi-hole! I then went to another site that put me into a redirect loop. It got me thinking about privately self hosting a lyrics site. I started thinking that lyrics are just a type of simple static content, and what would be ideal is an application in which you can upload multiple directories of markdown files. Perhaps the directory should be in a standardised .mds (markdown share) format for instance. It would essentially be a zip file with directories of markdown files and a yml file for indicating how it would ideally be displayed. Perhaps with an a-z, or perhaps text-searchable, or both. The styling would be configurable in the app and independent of the mds files completely. Does this kind of standard for sharing simple text or markdown in bulk exist in any capacity that encourages a known file format? I’m aware that static site generators exist, but they seem to be aimed at the creation of documentation, not at sharing it in bulk. I’m imagining easily downloadable recipe books, wikis, lyrics databases. Does this sound like something anyone would be interested in or am I over/under thinking it?

I’m using Vaultgarden. Things are okay after losing my SSD yesterday morning. My strategy worked… HDD for data, SSD for the OS. I promptly found an available drive, installed Linux mint and recovered.

With the overwhelming majority in support, the rules have been updated and will go into effect today.

I have a single Podman stack & Podman network - ingress via Caddy with crowdsec that forwards stuff to the various things I’ve got going. All self-contained in the Podman network.

I have some subdomains that go to my home address (I know I should put it through a VPS first but I’ll get to that when I have time).

Recently, I saw icanhazip.com pop up in my pFsense firewall logs. It was immediately blocked but the name piqued my interest, so I did a little digging which revealed an interesting backstory.

My old laptop for self hosting just croaked, and I’m thinking of buying a 2nd hand mini pc, but this time I want to do it proper. I want to optimize the electricity consumption and specs needed/ future upgreadability, considering how expensive everything is now.

Apologies if this is a rookie question, but I keep wondering what the vulnerabilities section on DockerHub is trying to tell me. Take nextcloud images for instance: The most current images seem to list 3 critical and 22 severe vulnerabilities. Does that mean those vulns are part of the image? If so, why would anyone want to run this?

EDIT: turns out I needed to set mountpoint=legacy, (sudo zfs set mountpoint=legacy <filesystem>) which is the standard way to use ZFS on nixos. Legacy in this context means that the mountpoint is decided by the system rather than ZFS; I guess ZFS was previously refusing to receive the mountpoint because it already had one, but I didn’t notice because they happened to be the same.
