Hi I use firefox on Linux and want to change to the first, second, third, …, last tab with ctrl+1/2/3/.../9 instead of alt+1/2/3/.../9 because alt is already mapped to changing desktops. any idea how I could accompilish this?

I switched from Zen back to Firefox because of bugs and forced features like window sync which many users including myself don’t want. I really miss having the entire UI on the side, I really don’t care about Zen’s other features.

I didn’t keep the .XPI file, unfortunately. Is it possible from a phone’s file structure to export or even build this from(/out of?) a currently installed add-on that can no longer be (easily) downloaded?
You might have noticed that when you browse Mozilla sites (e.g. the Firefox add-ons site) your installed add-ons don’t seem to work. This is annoying as hell, especially if you have accessibility needs that are met by an add-on. But there’s a way to prevent this from happening:
To test drive this I needed to apply some configuration tweaks, but the built-in ad blocker seems to just work. I tried it out on YouTube and a few other sites, and I haven’t seen so much as a hitch.
The "split view" functionality in @firefox is really nice! Read headlines from a single tab. After all the #AI rubbish, finally something good comes from #firefox development 🤗
I’ll start: Opening new tabs all the way to the right or bottom, rather than next to the current tab. Its especially disorienting on vertical tabs, I lose track of which (I changed the setting but its still annoying on blank Firefox profiles).

I absolutely hate the redesign, having the new tab button in the middle makes no sense, the corner is way easier to tap, having the individual tabs be taller makes them take up more space while looking worse and the tab selector takes up the whole screen, so I can’t see the tab I was on.
I just updated to Firefox 148. Very happy to see the “AI kill switch” in the settings. One thing that bothers me, though, is the new “Do you want to see the weather for your location?”. And even more bothering are the answer alternatives:

Hi there. I am using Firefox on macos and something really annoys me. It logs me off all site everytime I close it. I have non sensitive websites where I want to remain logged in without entering my password and 2FA code every single time. The box “Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed” is unticked but once restarted it is ticked again. Any idea what to do? Is that because I have tracking protection set on Strict?

TL;DR: Mozilla has a new CEO and a new mission: transform Firefox into an AI browser. That has run into some snags, as Firefox users don’t seem that interested in AI. Mozilla is forging ahead, utilizing deceptive patterns (previously known as dark patterns) to nag and annoy people into enabling AI features. You can see this in the introduction of Link Previews, an extremely invasive anti-feature that exists solely to push AI into your experience.

TL;DR: The big tech AI company LLMs have gobbled up all of our data, but the damage they have done to open source and free culture communities are particularly insidious. By taking advantage of those who share freely, they destroy the bargain that made free software spread like wildfire.

When I started working on AI at Mozilla two years ago, I was a Python developer with a background in web services and three months of machine learning experience from working on the Nuclia DB project. I was not someone who had trained models from scratch or built production ML infrastructure. Today, Firefox ships multiple AI features that run entirely on-device, and I helped build the infrastructure that makes that possible. This is a retrospective on what we accomplished and what I learned along the way.
TL;DR: Mozilla’s translation bot on Support Mozilla (that is currently overwriting user contributions is based on the closed source, copyright infringing LLM, Google Gemini. This is in spite of Mozilla claiming that they are at the forefront of open source AI, and belies their exhortations to choose to build open source AI and data sets. Although Mozilla has experience in attracting open contributions for data sets in projects like Common Voice, Mozilla is using a closed data set to overwrite open contributions. Since (paid) Gemini queries do not train the model, Mozillians can expect to correct errors every time the bot automatically updates an article.

Basically, whenever I edit firefox-profile-path/chrome/userChrome.css, I want firefox to automatically apply the file again. The only posts I found on this are old and not straightforward. I’m wondering what currently works.
TL;DR: Mozilla is killing localization on Support Mozilla, overwriting articles written by humans with machine generated translations. Although Mozilla knows that their AI doesn’t localize or adhere to style guides, Mozilla is going live with it anyway. I thank locale leaders and localizers for their tireless efforts. Locale leaders seem to be obviated by AI, and Mozilla has nothing to say about it.
TL;DR: On the November 2025 Mozilla Support Community call, Mozilla provided updates on the recent controversy from the Japanese Support Mozilla community quitting over AI. During the call, Mozilla doubled down on AI, confirming that volunteers would be unable to disable AI translations across the entire Mozilla knowledge-base, with the American English version of articles serving as the blessed, canonical version. Locale specific contributions will be overwritten (by design) by AI.
