Cycling communities were one of my favourite parts of reddit, and I've been unable to find any equivalents on here so I decided to start this community. Feel free to post and comment about anything related to cycling! I'd love for this place to continue in the spirit of /r/xbiking, not necessarily content-wise but definitely attitude-wise. We're all cyclists, and at the end of the day the only criteria for being a part of this community is riding a bicycle (and enjoying it!)
I have rush hydraulic brakes on my bike and am looking for a kit to bleed them. Local store says only park tools have the adapter. They expect me to buy the expensive tools, buy new brakes or have them do the work.
We are pretty stumped. My 11 year old outgrew his last bike, and rather than just buying a new one, we went to a local bike operation called the “Sacramento Bike Kitchen” that restores bikes and teaches bike repair. They sell refurbished bikes, but if you are getting a kid bike, it is free, and if you buy an adult bike for a kid, they give you $100 off. We decided to turn this into a learning opportunity and got a mountain bike for $70 (so free) that had a decent frame, but a lot of parts were in pretty rough shape.
Some background… this summer I’m spending 2-3 weeks with my folks back in my old hometown, and will likely be doing so every summer for the foreseeable future. They have a bike trail that connects to much of the city right in their backyard, so I’d really like to take advantage of that.
Clik valves! I’ve been using these on my bike for a month, and I like them! The cores are compatible with Presta stems; so you can remove the core from your Presta valve, and put in Clik core. They also sell an adapter that threads onto a Schrader valve.

Apartment dweller here, I can’t store it outside and I don’t have a garage, I was getting tired of just having it in the living room so I came up with this slightly better idea.
Moved to a small town that’s a lot more bike friendly than the suburban hellscape I previously lived in, and only have one car now. My wife works in the next city over so she gets the car, and I’ve spent my unemployed time fixing up my neglected relic and turned it into a daily driver. I needed a new derailer, brake housings and bar tape. Got that done and am gonna put some new tires once I start getting some paychecks. Tires are fine for now, but are very narrow and we have a lot of dirt roads and paths and I want some wider tires. Added a bag to the top bar that has a clear slot for a phone so I can nav around while I’m still learning the lay of the land. Also got an under saddle bag for a spare tube, a tire lever and a c02 cart. Got my hand pump attached to the same mount as my bottle. This month I’ve put 60 miles on it after not riding for at least 4 years and while my cheeks were killing me the first week I’m feeling great now. I thought riding down small roads would be nerve racking, but the roads are so empty people pass with plenty of room and are generally very courteous.
I’ve got an old Bianchi SX Sport from the 80s I’m using as a commuter bike. I recently moved from a concrete jungle to a rural area and probably need to get some new tires. Right now I’m riding on some slicks with pretty much no tread and am wanting to get some tires that will be better suited for light gravel and dirt roads. Current tires are 700x23. Will I need a new wheel to accommodate some thicker tires or can I get away with some all condition tires on gravel and dirt?
This type of biking only has a very light saturation near me. So when I rock up with my kid/bike situation and see this it feels like there is traction for good things happening.

Basically the title. I have a 2y old and a 3m old and would like to take them and their mother cycling on occasion. I realize the youngest can’t hold her neck up for long yet, so cycling for her is premature, but I’m thinking down the line in a year or so. Would also be nice if the bicycle doubled as a commuter since I’ll be moving to a place where I could plausibly commute for 25 minutes by bike.

I am looking for some advice on how to go about finding replacement front fork for my gravel bike. I bought my bike second hand and it was already a few years old at the time I believe which might explain why it is hard to come by a replacement part. The bike in question is a Fuji sportif le one.0.

I’ve been cycling for years now, spent 5 years in Paris cycling without eye protection.
But since I moved to London, I’ve felt the need to protect my eyes from the wind and humid air.
I’m currently using a copy of the 100% S2 (these) I had found on eBay.
But when I cycle in winter over 20mn I tend to have to close one eye to avoid arriving at my destination with my eyes very dry and/or crying. It’s manageable but quite tiring.
This is the reason a #Shimano XT #derailleur costs more than a Shimano Alivio. On the left you have the whole-body slop of an Alivio M3100 derailleur. On the right you have the same of an XT M8000. There’s noticeable slack in all the pivot joints of the M3100. There’s no noticeable slack in the XT. It feels like a single piece. The result of this difference is misshifts like going one gear higher then back to the desired one, or otherwise some shifts taking longer between gears.
I had to drive around 1500km this past weekend in a rented mini-van. I don’t own a car, so that’s probably more distance than I’ve covered in a motor vehicle in the past 5 years.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is very car-brained and really, really hates bike lanes. His base is in the suburbs of Toronto and anything that impedes cars gets him wound up. He wants to rip out recently created bike lanes in Toronto. He also banned speed cameras as they were working as intended. 🤷

Built it around 2012 out of a second hand MTB frame along with some new and old components. Served well for a few years. Sold to a friend who still rides it.

Hi! I have this beautiful old frame (the white one) that I want to rebuild to a city/pub bike, but will need to research a few things first (tire clearance, bottom bracket etc.) I'd need the brand for that, but can't find anything. Anyone got any ideas?
