Our cowardice in the face of the slow-burn societal and environmental decline. The fact that we had the numbers, but still allowed a very small percentage of rich people to destroy the world around us while we only focused on our individual wants.
Probably greed and ignoring the science behind climate change and ecological collapse
Knowing and not acting
Exploitation of earth’s resources and ecosystems with a complete disregard for the future.

Probably the destruction of civilization.

How far in the future are we talking? Far enough and this moment in time will essentially be totally lost to time.

Try and convince people to not eat meat, literally do the smallest most trivial action to mitigate climate change and they will fight you tooth and nail. We were screwed long before 2017 aka before the current AI push. 2040, most of the same people who helped cause the issue will be there. Of course younger people inheriting it will have more blame to give. That said, would they have behaved differently? History doesn’t favor the answer that they would have, but obviously blame is easier than action..
